Pre Operative Assessment:
You will be asked to stop smoking well in advance of surgery. Also, Aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs which can cause increased bleeding.
If you are planning to lose a significant amount of weight, be sure to tell your plastic surgeon. He or she may recommend that you stabilize your weight prior to undergoing surgery.
Because of individual physical factors, you will be asked to point out the exact areas which you would like to see improved. This will help our surgeon to understand your expectations and determine whether they can realistically be achieved.
Consultation will be arranged to discuss your medical history. You will be asked to provide completed information about this.
Please avoid food and drink 6-8 hours prior to the operation.
Please prepare and bring support garment yourself for your post operative assessment.
Procedure information and technique
The small canula is placed deep into fatty layer and presser suction is applied until the fat is removed. Carefully sculpting contour of the body is the key of success because the fat under skin must be removed and the remained fat has to be smooth but thinner layer.
Technique Variations
Fluid Injection, a technique in which a medicated solution is injected into fatty areas before the fat is removed, is commonly used by plastic surgeons today. The tumescent fluid --a mixture of intravenous salt solution, lidocaine (a local anesthetic) and epinephrine (a drug that contracts blood vessels) --helps the fat be removed more easily, reduces blood loss and provides anesthesia during and after surgery. Fluid injection also helps to reduce the amount of bruising after surgery.
The amount of fluid that is injected varies depending on the preference of the surgeon. Also, the time required to perform liposuction may vary considerably, depending on the size of the area, the amount of fat being removed, the type of anesthesia and the technique used.
Recovery Time
You may be able to return to work in just a few days. In many instances, you can resume most of your normal activities within one or two weeks and begin some form of exercise soon after. The timing of your recovery depends largely on the extent of your surgery. Healing is a gradual process. Activity that is more strenuous should be avoided for about a month as your body continues to heal. It's important to continue wearing the compression garment.
Risk and Complication
Fortunately, significant complications from liposuction are infrequent. Every year, many thousands of people have undergone liposuction, experience no major problems and are pleased with the results.
The subject of risks and potential complications of surgery is best discussed on a personal basis between you and your surgeon.
While numbness of the skin following liposuction is almost always temporary, it is possible for some lack of sensation to persist or for skin discoloration to appear in treated areas. Contour irregularities including depressions or wrinkling of the skin can result in some patients, but treatments are usually available to help minimize these problems if they occur.
Risks of General Anaesthesia
The risks of general anaesthesia include human error, unsuspected inherited hypersensitivity to anaesthetic drugs, accidental overdose of anaesthesia, any undetected airway disconnection or airway blockage. General anaesthesia, which increases the risk of vomiting and impairs protective airway reflexes, can cause aspiration of stomach contents.
