Pre Operative Assessment

Be sure to inform your doctor about your general health, medication, and any specific problems such as dryness of the eyes, change in vision, or other eye related symptoms. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, be sure to bring them along. Stop smoking, discontinue consumption of alcohol, and stop taking vitamin E and any medications containing aspirin.
(Two weeks pre and postoperative period is usually recommended.)

Procedure Information and Technique

Eyelid surgery is a procedure to remove fat, usually along with excess skin and fat. The surgeon will make an incision on the drawn marks or on the crease of the upper eyelid. It depends on the amount of skin needed to be removed, and other factors. It is usually performed as an out - patient case. The nurse will give you cold compress to reduce swelling and bruising.

Results of Eyelid Surgery

Aesthetic eyelid surgery is performed on adults of all ages. Some people have eyelid surgery to correct problems that are a result of aging, while others have inherited traits that cause them to seek treatment as early as their 20s or 30s.

Risk and Complications

The subject of risks and potential complications of surgery is best discussed on a personal basis between you and your surgeon, or with a staff member in your surgeon's office.

Some of the potential complications that may be discussed with you include hematoma (an accumulation of blood under the skin that may require removal), infection and reactions to anaesthesia.
Following the surgery, there can be a feeling of dryness or irritation in the eye that requires treatment. There is a possibility of a temporary decrease in sensation of the eyelid skin or impaired eyelid function that sometimes may need to be corrected by additional surgery.

You can help minimize certain risks by following the advice and instructions of your plastic surgeon, both before and after your eyelid surgery.

Post Operative Care (After care treatment)

After the surgery, your eyes will be applied with an eye ointment. Your eyelid may feel tight, bruised or swollen. Most pain if any can be controlled with painkillers or medications prescribed by your doctor.
The stitches will be removed 5 to 7 days after the surgery. Seven to 10 days after the surgery you can return to work, bruises can be hidden with concealers or corrective cosmetics.

Self-care

Keep your head elevated for several days.

Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from direct sunlight and wind.

Do not wear your contact lenses after surgery unless permitted by the doctor.

It is significant to avoid activities that will raise your blood pressure, including blending and lifting.
